As a mediator, consultant, and keynote presenter, Pat’s passion and expertise is to bring organizations and individuals to a new level of skill and understanding in their work and personal relationships. She is known to do so with insight, sensitivity, and humour.
Dr. Comley has worked extensively with the Ontario SPCA over the last five years as a trainer, consultant, and intervention counsellor. She has presented workshops or consulted with SPCA and other animal humane societies across Ontario, B.C., Newfoundland, and New Brunswick. Pat has also presented at the Ontario SPCA Conferences in 2008/10/11. Workshops include Resiliency, Leading Across Cultures, Hurry Up and Relax, The Power of Emotional Intelligence, Intervention Strategies. Next year she will be holding 'Train the Trainer' workshops to carry this work further and allow local animal care organizations to be self sufficient in these areas.
Resilience and wellness in animal care communities is of particular interest to her. She has just launched formal research initiatives in this area and is writing a book on this topic. Pat also teaches psychology, part time, at Ryerson University, specializing in personal growth and stress management. As a licensed facilitator in emotional intelligence and certified professional in mediation, trauma counselling, and coaching, Pat helps animal care organizations in times of crisis. Her consulting includes Emotional Intelligence testing as a method to refine the training process of cruelty investigators and shelter workers. Similar work has been initiated with Newfoundland and New Brunswick.
Pat also worked closely with the Ontario SPCA and the Toronto Humane Society, using her expertise to help the staff emotionally navigate through highly stressful and challenging times in 2009/10.
Regarded as a creative thinker with an adventurous spirit, Pat lives in Toronto’s Beach area where dogs and cats flourish and are loved by all.
